Lois Whitaker's Obituary
Lois Whitaker, aged 79, died from end stage Alzheimer’s at her home in Leesburg, FL. She was born June 20, 1940 in Hornell, New York, the daughter of Karle H. and Helen Mae (Guild) Zeltwanger.
Lois graduated and was top of her Beauty School Class for cutting hair. After school she married Kenneth Whitaker and they settled in Leesburg, Florida. They celebrated 59 years of marriage on July 3rd. Lois loved music and loved to sing. Her first job as a Director of Music was at Fruitland Park Baptist Church. She sang for years on Channel 55. She traveled to teach and sing in the Phillipines. She sang with her dear friend in the largest church of the world in Korea. Lois was a loyal member of Women’s Aglow International for over 30 years. She served on the board for 5 years and served as President for 9 years. Most people don’t know that while visiting her sister in Palatka, Lois rescued a little girl from a kidnapper in the Walmart parking lot. She was presented the Medal of Honor as a Hero, by the City of Palatka.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Tom, and her sister, Chris. Surviving in addition to her husband, Kenneth Whitaker, are her daughter, Dawn (Pat) Kennedy of Leesburg; her son, Steve (Susan) Whitaker of Leesburg; two brothers, Don (Debby) Zeltwanger, Chuck (Joni) Zeltwanger; six grandchildren, Josh(Renee) Kennedy, Aaron Kennedy, Chrisy (Shawn) Sterner, Matt (Olivia) Whitaker, Kylar (Alexa) Whitaker, Shelly Whitaker; six great grandchildren, Avery, Olivia, Eleanor Lois, Haylee, Jennifer and Daniel and many nieces and nephews.
