Basil A Harrison's Obituary
Basil Augustine Harrison, 87, loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, left this world on Monday, April 30, 2018, to be received by his Savior and loved ones in heaven. He was born in New York City. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Poughkeepsie, NY, operating a dairy farm known as Brooklands Farm.
After graduating from Wappingers Central School (1948), Basil joined the Navy and served during the Korean War on the USS Dyess from 1948-1952. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a degree of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1956. He was employed by IBM East Fishkill in NY for over 20 years and retired in 1991. Over his lifetime, Basil's family ties were strong. He made every effort to keep in touch with family, relatives and friends until Parkinson's disease made it difficult.
In 1996 he and his wife Alice retired to Leesburg, FL. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Leesburg. He also belonged to The Gideons International and often participated in Bible distributions.
Surviving are Basil's children, Kathleen, Kenneth, Eve, and James, Also surviving are Alice’s children, Andrea, Mark and Daryl, and Basil's brother, J. Gregory Harrison. He was predeceased by his wife, Trudy, in 1977. We, who knew and loved Basil, will always remember him for his subtle humor, quiet wisdom and caring love.
